randy_vtd.jpg (29674 bytes) The weekend began at 1pm on Friday afternoon. Randy Dillman started off with Ford & Chrysler Vehicle Theft Deterrent Systems and his class went until dinner. Randy wasn't quite finished before dinner, so he finished his presentation after the dinner break. Then Jim took over with a shortened version of his popular E.S.I. (Electronic Service Information) class. Vans transported the guys back to the hotel around 8:30pm Friday night.

Saturday brought an early morning with breakfast downstairs at the hotel at 7am. The vans took off around 7:45 for Lincoln Tech for the day's classes. Jim spent the morning doing his class, Graphical Scan Tool Interface.

After lunch, everyone split into small groups scan tool demos in the shop. Each person spent 45 minutes at 5 different workstations, each with a different scan tool. The object was to show graphical utilization on each tool as well as finding out what cables, software, etc. was necessary to interface each tool with a PC. The following is a list of the scan tools that were available for demonstration:

  1. Tech-2

  2. Mastertech

  3. OTC Genysis/Mac Mentor

  4. Snap-on Modis

  5. Standard BDM

  6. Ford NGS

  7. EASE

We would like to thank all of the presenters who helped demonstrate the capabilities of each tool. Chuck Mehozonek of Hickok, Corp. was on hand to show off the Ford NGS, Jeff Masterman, training developer for Standard Motor Products, presented the Standard BDM, Mike Sauer, Regional Trainer for Vetronix, Corp. was available for the Mastertech demonstration with the new techview pro software, John Thornton showed his knowledge about the EASE PC-based scan tool and Randy Dillman spent time showing off the GM Tech-2. In addition, two of our local guys volunteered to help out for the weekend and share their knowledge with the group. Scott Hessler (who helped in the other Guru-II schools) did a superior job as always as he demonstrated the Mac Mentor and Mike Grogan (along with his technician Michael Workman) of Grogan's Amoco here in Indy did a great job with the new Snap-ON Modis especially considering he's only owned the tool for a just a few months. Shop time ended just before dinner and everyone was transported back to the LTS shop for a Bubba-style cookout. Most of the LTS staff was on hand at the cookout including our newest member, Susan Cooper. Everyone had a great time visiting with each other, but most of the guys were back at the hotel by 9pm.

Sunday morning started bright and early once again. As everyone gathered at Lincoln Tech for the final morning, some of the Lincoln Tech Staff members who were on hand all weekend took everyone on a tour of the facility. Shortly after, John Thornton took off (at lightning speed) and held everyone's full attention until the 12:30 ending. John's class was one of his newest on IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Controls), Ford Electronic returnless fuel systems and VCT (Variable Cam Timing).

Everyone took off for home around 1pm and once again we're left to reflect on a great weekend.
