Electronic Conversion for 1940-1962 Six Cylinder GM Distributors

After working on and teaching ignition systems for 30 plus years we have found the Chrysler electronic distributor and the GM HEI control module to be the best ever, system for system!.

The following pictorial illustrates what our typical conversion consists of.

We start with your good useable GM six-cylinder distributor unit.

Prep the breaker plate for installation of the electronic pick-up coil.

Chrysler pick-up coil is used in our conversion. Readily available at any local auto parts store.

A machined Chrysler reluctor is pressed onto the points cam.

Pick-up coil is mounted on the plate using the contact point adjusting screw and air gap is set to .006" with feeler gauge.

The assembly is run in distributor machine to test.

Next is the control module. We use a machined heat sink/mount for the GM control module.

Module is mounted in the heat sink and circuit wiring is soldered in place.
